Recorded live over two nights in January 2024 with support from the City of Austin’s Live Music Fund, The Bachian Swing Consort treats J.S. Bach as living material; pairing historically informed touch with modern improvisation, groove, and timbral play. New arrangements sit alongside free group improvisations, revealing how counterpoint, call-and-response, and harmonic invention thrive across centuries. Featuring a trio of Rashaan Allwood (organ & synth), R. Aaron Walters (drums), and director Kevin Metzger (electric guitar), alongside vocalists Page Stephen and Rebekah Smeltzer-Staley, the album moves from the soulful and sacred to the bold and experimental; tracing a line where Baroque structure grooves and swings without breaking.
